Determined by what I've observed and skim in other resources, the oval (P) proof mark wasn't released until eventually 1908. Prior to that time, Winchester marked “OF” (outdoors equipped) on the bottom from the barrel under the forend stock to the mail purchase barrels. I have see many of them on Design 1885 Solitary Shot Rifles that predate 1908.
Receivers produced following 1905 obtaining no “WP” evidence but have barrels Together with the “WP” and “Oval P” mark would point out a mail buy barrel.
I just cannot feel that it had been necessary to take parts in the store room selected for mail purchase parts. Any foreman well worth his paycheck would ensure that the parts provide stayed forward from the assembly line!

Numerous of those are Exploring Winchester's hunting heritage still in production currently by way of firms for example Browning, Rossi, Navy Arms and others which have revived quite a few in the discontinued models or created reproductions.
